Daniel Doktori to Join American Public Media Group as SVP, General Counsel

Doktori will lead legal function and contribute to strategic leadership at the largest station-based public radio organization in the U.S.  

ST. PAUL, MINN. September 18, 2024 – Following a national search, American Public Media Group (APMG) announces Daniel Doktori as its next senior vice president and general counsel. He begins in the role, which sits on the organization’s executive team and reports to the CEO, on October 7.  

Doktori joins APMG most recently from the British publishing and learning company Pearson, which acquired Credly, Inc., a SAAS startup named a 2021 Deloitte Fast 500 company, in 2022. He served as general counsel and chief of staff at Credly, helping the company scale from a five-person startup to an industry leader serving thousands of enterprise customers and tens of millions of users. At Pearson, Doktori managed legal for several software and associated services businesses in the workforce skills division.    

In preceding roles, he served as a corporate attorney for a leading law firm, executive director for a blue-ribbon gubernatorial task force promoting industry and higher education partnerships and served in the administrations of two governors of New York.  

Doktori serves on the board of Hypothekids, a nonprofit that provides hands-on STEAM education and internship opportunities to underrepresented K-12 students; and as chair of the board for OpenSecrets, a nonpartisan, nonprofit research and government transparency group tracking money in politics and its influence on elections and policy.      

His educational background includes a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a master’s from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and a bachelor’s degree from Stanford.

Doktori, a lifelong New Yorker, moved to Minneapolis in 2021 after Credly acquired a company based in the Twin Cities. Daniel said he felt particularly moved by the work of APMG and its work to cross socio-economic, racial, political and other societal dividing lines. He “believes that the team assembled at APMG has the capacity to address this challenge, which ranks among the most pressing of our time,” he said.
